The protein content of cottonseed varies by variety, reaching 50-60% after dehulling and oil removal. The main component of cottonseed protein is globulin, accounting for about 90%, followed by glutenin. Cottonseed protein is similar to legume protein in quality, with higher nutritional value than cereal protein. In terms of amino acid composition, except for slightly lower methionine, all other essential amino acids have reached FAO/WHO recommended values. Therefore, cottonseed protein is an excellent protein food and feed protein source.
